LDWF Schedules Drawdown for Lake Bistineau
(July 18, 2014) Giant salvinia in Lake Bistineau, located near Minden, has reached the threshold necessary for a lake drawdown. Current estimates include 2,000 acres of salvinia coverage in the 17,000-acre lake. Continuous expansion is expected as summertime temperatures promote maximum growth of the invasive weed. Most of the salvinia in Lake Bistineau is currently confined to isolated coves off the main lake and in areas of thick timber north of Lake Bistineau State Park.

Six Month Requirement for New Louisiana Residents
From the LDWF... July 21, 2014 – New residents in Louisiana will qualify for purchasing resident recreational hunting and fishing licenses after six months in state once Act 429 becomes effective on Aug. 1, 2014.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will offer resident licenses to qualifying new residents as authorized by Act 429, signed by Gov. Bobby Jindal following the 2014 Legislative Session.
